Everyday I'll find myself in this place where I'm working - in an honest rhythm, burning "rubber" on my keyboard - clicking on emails, returning old ones, editing in Lightroom, typing up an invoice, opening up ROES to place an order, double clicking on a song I've gotta hear right then, switching over to Photoshop to adjust the color a bit more, checking the weather just because I'm curious.....you get my point. I'm a multi-tasker for sure (i.e. ADD) and I'll be in that place - usually late afternoon - where I'm actually getting quite a bit done.
Enter her. She's yellow, furry and incredibly persistent. Her patience is really quite valiant. And, the way an animal can talk to you without uttering a word just goes to show how powerful body language is.
Except I'm on a roll. I'm working - can't stop now - I'm in my rhythm and it's almost time to stop for dinner. Can't stop, gotta work. You can sit there all day long, dog, I'm not moving....She knows exactly what she's doing when she pitifully walks over to look out the window at the world beyond these four walls. I will NOT feel guilty.
Back to her post.
Sometimes her patience starts to put her to sleep (sitting up, mind you)..
So, she'll change positions, coming to sit closer, but not looking at me as if to say, "What? I'm just sitting here. You go ahead. Work away. I'll just sit here and look out the back window and wonder what all the other dogs are doing out there....(enter deep, pitiful sigh here)"
So, I'll do just that. Keep working away. And, then I'll feel it. Those eyes. Piercing my forehead.
New position. Except this time Corey calls out, "Hey Babe, wanna take Chili for a walk?"
It's over. She heard it. The "W" word. I get ready to say no. I'm working. But, I see it. Her tail - it's sweeping the floor with great expectation. "Sure," I reply. She wins (yet again).Off to see just how serious he is.
Oh, yes! He's serious! The leash has been removed from the hook. My ship has come in! All my dreams have come true. I can't stand still. I've gotta jump, lie down, sit, run to the door....hey, where's my leash?!....jump, turn in circles...
....until finally I can contain myself long enough to get my leash put on (ooooh...but, please hurry! I'm dying with excitement here! There are sidewalks, col-de-sacs and grass waiting just for me!).
As you'll notice by the picture above my laptop is closed. Dang that dog. It's the ears. I can't help myself.
